I own one, and I cut things all the time, I would be happy to help. I think the best bet would to be cutting it from the black icing images sheet, made for the cutter, and leaving it all connected, to ship. That way, it isn't sliding around getting damaged. Yes, well, I can. But I have the Make the Cut software that Cricut has since severed their relationship with, so I can no longer update my cricut software if I want to continue using my own non-cartridge cuts.
So, if you have a cricut and you've updated the software since V. 2.34 (that's the latest version I have on my Cricut and I can't go any farther) then you are out of luck and have to use the Cricut cartridges.
I have about six Cricut carts that I use, but mostly I use the MtC software to do my own thing.
