Sugarshack buttercream recipe - UK

Hi there,

 

I have been wanting to try sugarshacks buttercream recipe for a long time now.

 

I'm from UK and I don't have any wedding bouquet flavour, I was wondering if anyone here had tried it and which brand ingredients they used.

 

I know about coffee mate as a coffee creamer but I am not sure about how to dilute it with water to get the amount required for the recipe?

 

Also does anyone have the recipe in UK measurements, I really don't want to mess it up! :)

Sugarshack's Buttercream Icing
 
5 generous cups of hi ratio shortening -  980 g Trex [196g/US cup]
5 pounds powdered sugar 
flavorings to taste 
1 cup of powdered coffee creamer [96 g] in 
1 cup of hot water*
 
*for the consistency preferred

Yeah that's the one Auzzi. Have you tried it?

Trex is the only one I know of so I was hoping to use that. icon_smile.gif

Has anyone tried it without flavourings? I've made a trex frosting before and even with vanilla in the texture was gross and left a greasy feeling on the roof of your mouth so I'm interested in trying this and seeing what it's like. icon_smile.gif

I use it, I love it. You don't have to use the wedding bouquet flavoring. You can use whatever exacts, oils, or flavorings you like.

Trex I believe is the equivalent of Crisco in the US and crisco leaves a yucky gross greasy taste and feeling in your mouth not sure if you can get high ratio shortening in the UK so not sure if you can make sugar shacks recipe or not.

I would recommend using AT LEAST half butter in it. And start with less liquid, about half. Add more if you need to.

Replace the trex/cookeen with butter, we don't have hi-ratio here and people don't like frosting made with white veg fat.

I used trex and it was great, it was super white (which somebody did remark on), really fluffy and light with minimal air bubbles (I ended up in a rush so didn't take my time making the frosting!) It was tasty and it didn't leave that weird feeling in your mouth.

I used about half the liquid and my other half put the rest in his coffee throughout the day lol

I know that some don't like shortening recipes but I think that it's good one you can go to for dairy intolerant.

I would definitely use this in future. I think that the vanilla batch I made tasted just that... Vanilla frosting... not buttery. For cupcakes especially I liked that!

It was good consistency for piping too. I'm glad I tried it!
