Whether To Use Whipping Cream Or Butter Icing To Decorate Tres Leches Cake!!

Hi, I am going to make a 2 layer Tres Leches Cake sheet for one of my friend's 30th birthday.
I want to decorate it in the shape of Beer Mug. I read every where that Tres Leches are topped with Whipping cream and it doesn't taste good with butter icing! Is that True?
Also I found this link:
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/white-tres-leches-cake/detail.aspx?scale=16&ismetric=0
Where they have decorated the cake.
Am a bit confused whether the decoration will be with whipping cream or butter icing!!
Also can I use icing color in whipped cream??
Please suggest if I can use Butter icing, if so how to preserve the leak?
Also if I can decor with Colored whipping cream?
Thanks in Advance!
AAre you carving the cake into a beer mug shape? If it's flat that might work, but if you are carving it into a 3d mug I doubt that would work. A whipped cream icing is traditional. I wouldn't do a butter buttercream because it's not traditional for a tres leches, and I dont think that would taste right. To my knowledge there is no way to prevent the leaking.
I totally agree with AnnieCahill. Whipped cream is traditional, it also helps settle the sweetness of the tres leches.
AA trueTres Leched Cake is a very moist cake, you have to soak with the mixture of the milks, it will work for a sheet cake but not a 3D cake or any other cake that requires carving. Of you stack it will start "leaking". Also, the traditional icing is the whipped cream icing.HTH.
Thank You All. Your suggestion will be really helpful. I will be making a sheet Beer mug in flat.
