I just went back to look at your comments and they were gone??? detective.gif

BatterUp - I can still see the comments on my photos. I definitely haven't deleted them! I think it's a good idea to leave them up in case someone else can get something out of the comments.

OK...I see them now!

thumbs_up.gif   I`ve learned to put more thought into my cake boards from this thread, and a couple other things to try!

I did a cake board today for a cake I'm baking tomorrow. I got a last minute order today for a shoe and shoe box cake. This is the best board I have done. Black embossed floral paper and I glued diamond mesh  around the outside. Next time I am going with fondant...Here is my first shoe....not done yet...but would be happy for feedback

BTW, that is not the board I am using

Looks really good BatterUp!  I think the front part needs to extend up a little farther. Other wise it looks awesome better than all the shoe molds I have seen!

Thanks! I bought a cheapie pair of shoes at Ross's and cut it up....that was my mold for the sole. I did the heel freehand but you can't see it. I found some templates online for the back and top. Not knowing what size shoe they came from so that may explain why the top looks a little short. I want to put some trim on it. Maybe I can bring the top up more that way...

I think people who make shoes are so great. It looks hard to do well and so I'm in awe of those who do them!! I love the shape of your shoe, the curve in the sole is lovely. The only thing I would say is that the toe looks slightly short and out of proportion with the overall length of your shoe. Apart from that, it's fabulous, and I can't wait to see the cake all done!!

A few years ago there was a group of members that called themselves (I think?) The Cake Club.  They critiqued people's cakes if you asked for it.  I want to get it started again!  Who's with me????

In case you weren't around then, here's what it is all about:
  1. Upload photos of your cake in the Galleries.  Please do not upload photos here!
  2. Make sure in the comments under the photo in the Gallery that you describe the cake, techniques used, and that you are asking for critique from the Cake Club.  This will help us know that we have clicked on the right cake photos and also to confirm that you are asking for critique.
  3. Post in this thread to let us know you uploaded a new cake and post the hyperlink to your photoset.

Those subscribed to this Cake Club thread would then pop over to your album and give honest but encouraging feedback.

Anyone can offer opinion on the cake, but the goal is to help decorators (new and old) improve and build on their skills.  If you see something that needs improvement please try to share tips on how to do something better.  And of course, if you see something done well, let that person know!

This is not a way to ask for pricing on your cake, and I ask any members participating to not answer pricing questions if asked.

This is also not a way to get "favorites" so you can land on the home page.  This is only to get constructive feedback!

Your photos also have to be uploaded to the galleries HERE on Cake Central, please do not direct up to critique on your blog, Facebook or website.

If you want to sign up to be a member and are willing to critique, just post below!  Just make sure you are subscribed to this thread and you opt for immediate notifications.

If you want feedback on your cake, lets make sure we get more then a few people to sign up to be members,  I don't want to be the only one critiquing cakes!

BatterUp, I love your shoe!  What did you use to get the texture?

Given the speed with which mods land on threads where there is the slightest hint of a dispute between members, you'd think these spammers would be dealt with BEFORE my e-mail box is full of this rubbish and any attendant viral components AND BEFORE the 'new posts' page is full of this same rubbish.

Since she is a frequent member I am guessing she has been hacked or has a virus. This is happening in several threads. I flagged it in 2 so far.

I saw it in a load of threads...

So I went an uploaded my latest cake.   The cake that humidity attempted to destroy.   I put in a lot of work to make ombre frosting but I kept mucking with it to take off the condensation.   It was also perfectly smooth and crumb free before that.  I have a feeling I scraped off most of the frosting battling the condensation.   Aside from that I mucked up my letter placement really badly, I have no idea what I was thinking.  Lesson learned, for last minute cakes make more than 1.  I was so annoyed I didn`t have time to make a second one...   My topper also softened again after days of heavy rain  icon_cry.gif    My design goal was something simple but not boring.  1st time doing the ombre thing.
