I just posted a cake on my facebook page and someone came along and commented that she could make one just like that, and then proceeded to say how she would do it...
I am annoyed, i'm sure I don't have to explain why. The question is, do I delete the comment? Should I encourage her to make one and post her own pic? Should I just ignore?
She's not one of my friends, clearly not a potential customer, since she's so talented...
What I want to do is find out where she lives and glare at her from my car window.
LOL
Suggestions?
jen
I would delete her comment and ban her from the page. Unless you give away your decorating tips and answer people's questions regarding the techniques to achieve the cake posted there is no reason to put up with her comment. But that's just me.
AI would first send her a comment explaining that you find her comment rude. I would tell her that I have removed her comment.
AI think you have to ban before you delete. I just deleted a snarky comment last week, then tried to ban, and there was no way to do it.
My comment was something along the lines of me being greedy, and she had a business too, so she knows what prices are.
thank you, ladies. i discovered that on facebook it is possible to sort of mute a person. you can delete it from other's views without deleting it from the poster's view. This is what i did.
AWhy don't you post the cake here, and her instructions, and we can all laugh at her? ;-) lol, j/k but it may make you feel better!
Did she give pricing and contact info, as well?

I'd be so tempted to un-mute her and post the comment that someone else said in that first "Price the Cake" thread to the effect of "No you will get A cake for that price, but not THIS cake" and then post the link to that thread...

Wow. I've been quote from another thread!! *biggest grin** You made my day!

She didn't, thank goodness. I'm so irritated. I was really pleased with this cake, and no, it's not a difficult cake, but for goodness sake! How clueless must you be to come onto another person's business page and make any other comment besides, "I like it" "I hate it" and "where can I buy it?"
AThat's one of the hazards of a Facebook presence...anyone can post anything they want, and every negative post is visible to everyone until you remove it.
If you do restore the post be very careful how you reply to it. As the business owner your customers will expect a higher standard of professionalism from you than from a random commenter.
Well isn't she a peach? As a business owner I'd have a really hard time replying in a manner that wasn't offensive I'd sure like to see her try to pull that cake off though. And a rundown of how long it took her to do it....if she's really got the talent.
I had something similar happen to me recently, but not as bad. Someone from across the country "liked" my picture and so did her friend. Then, that friend commented on the picture, "Suzy (or whatever her name was), did you make this?" "Suzy" responded that it was not her cake and that she was just "liking" a great piece of work. So I thought that was great of her to respond that way and that was that. Then, the friend comments again, "You can make this!" I thought about what to do and talked to my husband about it. In the end, I ended up doing what you did and "hid" the comments from MY audience. Those who commented can see it and so can their "friends" but it doesn't show up on my page. I figured since they are nowhere near me, I don't need to take further action.
Some people are just tactless and I hate trying to be the bigger person and wanting to be professional sometimes, but you do what you have to do for your business:/
Ahere's a great piece of southern advice I received once:
"be the lady you should be instead of the bee itch you want to be"
...kind of hard to do sometimes though... ;)

Unfortunately people don't always realize who can see their comments. She may have thought she was commenting on a picture that was "shared" to her friends page and only her friend could see, or she may have been tactless. Either way facebook is not as cool as it used to be. *Ugh to facebook, i am so over it.

I have this issue with my boyfriend's sisters all the time! One sister always expects to get something for free, or thinks she is being funny, so is always leaving comments that I find unprofessional on my page. I delete them. Plain and simple. I almost think it's harder to do that to people you know, but she just doesn't get the professionalism of a business page.
I would delete the comments, and if she comments again, block her. Give her a chance to maybe not be a PITA.
i posted some pics of cake pops and had a 'new fan' post with arrows to her face that "<<<< ships cake pops all over the country." Clearly she was spamming my audience and trying to poach business. I deleted her comment. To which she commented back that I was very rude for deleting her comment and that she was...gasp! unliking my page!!!. Creep got banned then and there. Thankfully I saw it and took care of it before too many customers saw it. No way would I have commented or let my customers/fans see something less than professional.
I totally agree with "Delete & Ban".
I've had to do this a few times. We have almost 6000 fans on our Facebook page so naturally other businesses want to plug themselves without my permission.
I have noticed that almost every single time I get a nasty comment about something they are either a home-baker trying to plug themselves ("I can do it better, blah, blah, blah) or they are fans of a competitor (coincidence? I think not!)
I have a "disclaimer" on my page that says I have the right to delete any messages posted to our wall.
If it's a legit complaint, I don't take it down/hide from it. But if you're just being a jerk/jealous idiot, etc., you're getting banned!! :-)
Lol..you don't have to have a disclaimer for any action you take on your own page. It's your sandbox, and you hold the rights to shovel the sh*& out at will! :D
