Im facing this delimma...I love to make homemade buttercream...I love the way it tastes as well, but im looking for a general frosting to decorate most cakes in. I try to save it for my specialty cakes.. But is it cheaper to frost with a bulk frosting? Like what wal-mart bakeries use..Ive seen a couple posts about something called "Bettercream" Whatever that is..Im just curious..

Bettercreme is EXPENSIVE! It is what the bakeries call "whipped" and use can use it for ice cream cakes.

And homemade buttercream is always going to be fresher and cheaper, unless you use a meringue buttercream, and are looking to buy a bucket of American buttercream.

All of the bakeries in my area use crisco or hi-ratio in their frosting. I have yet to find one that uses cream cheese, or even ABC, much less SMBC. Maybe that's what people in your area are eating as well?
