How much would it cost to make this cake?

I have never bought a cake before in my life, so to be honest, I don't even know who I'm supposed to go to! So I guess this is a two part question.

1) Who do I go to to make a custom made cake?

2) How much would the cake below cost?

The cake is for my girlfriend, who just got into dental school this week. Thanks, and happy holidays!

It depends on where in the world you are located; how big the cake is and how knowledgable the decorator is!

Pricing varies all over the place in different parts of the U.S. (and the world!)

It appears to be an 8" round but could be a 9"er.  In big cities in the U.S. it probably would sell for around $75-$120.

Thanks for the response! I am located in Dallas, Texas, and this cake isn't meant to feed a bunch of people, probably just 2 or 3.

I would charge you minimum $50 even if its a 8".

2 or 3? Well be prepared to pay for a cake that feeds more than that. Most decorators aren't going to make a custom cake for 3 people. Its just not worth our time.

I think all of the cakes are cute; she would be happy with any of them. I have a local independent store for cake supplies and cakers put their business cards on the bulletin board, plus pictures of the cakes they've make. I don't know if a place like Michael's does that or not. If you can find a store that sells cake supplies, you could ask for recommendations.

There. Their. They're not the same.

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."

That sounds about right, sculpting the figures can be very labor-intensive. Try contacting local bakeries (check Yelp for reviews) to see what you can get for $75, you'll probably have to settle for a flat design.

Bake it yourself maybe. You could do a 9x13 and cut it in the shape of a tooth--kinda round the sides and make two 'legs'--pretty easy. Then if it was me I'd ice it all white then put a dab of chocolate somewhere for a cavity and write the "calling Dr. Whoever"

just a thought

Not exactly the same effect as the $200 one but diy works sometimes.

You just can't buy a Mercedes on a Kia budget.  That's a time-intensive cake and cakes like that aren't cheap.

Many get sticker shock for custom cakes, we deal with it all the time - that would be in the $200-300 range for me to do!

Best of luck to you and congratulate your girlfriend from all of us!

And when you become a doctor and start indulging in the finer things (things that us cake decorators don't get, cause truth be told we aren't getting rich from these $200 orders), don't cheap out for your kids' birthdays. Jus' sayin. icon_biggrin.gif

Unless you have a food color printer, the bottle and TP tube lables will cost $15 to $20 alone. Add that to cake and labor. Min $50 easy.
