ASeriously, my fellow Artists. Please stop with the "Balls", as if the Art of Baking/Cooking isn't occupied with more Men than Women in the field. Cake Lollipops, Petite fours, Mini-cakes, Little guilt free bites, anything really but "Balls".
Buuuuuut that's what they are - balls. Balls and ball pops. Petite fours are not spherical. Mini cakes are also not spheres. There is nothing wrong with calling them what they are - balls. There is no negative connotation when used in context. So, I am not understanding the reason for your post. Color me confused.

"Cake" balls are not cake, but crumbs of cake smooshed into a different life form. I have only made the kind with alcohol, so I call them "booze balls".

Hahaha! I have no problem with the term cake BALLS for ***ist reasons. I just think cake TRUFFLES sounds classier. All the more necessary when what you're pushing is, as BakingIrene says, smooshed up cake crumbs covered with chocolate! I also love your pharmacist's little giftie - although if I were the customer I wouldn't know whether to laugh or take offense: is the guy giving me some since I obviously don't have any?

Oh no, way! Truffles have nothing to do with cake! When someone tells me "here's a truffle" and I bite into a piece of globbed up cake that's covered with nasty candy melts and held together with icing that is more than a disappointment. Truffles should have cream, chocolate and perhaps some booze in them, but NO CAKE!!!!!
I suggest "cake descended ovaries" for a more female-centric version of cake balls. Just to clarify that there are women who bake, naturally.

I suspect it's to avoid some of the ads that search for key words. Although I shudder to think what ads will come from this thread. I think cake descended ovaries is my favourite alternative name so far, and I'll definitely be going to play basketshpere from now on.
