Budgeting here so would appreciate a cheaper recipe and we like chocolate well my hubby does but white would be okay I bet that's cheaper. I would like to serve 18 or so people I think and so maybe just one layer but two layers if it wouldn't be too much trouble or very much extra. Like I said not too much fondant because everyone peels it off anyways so I don't understand what it's used for except to color the cake more. I also like ruffles cake you did. let me know if you can do this or how much this cake will cost." Wondering what kind of cake they want or how to even respond. :/

NO. just no. pick a cake on my website, pay for it and I'll make it. Otherwise, you're just making my head hurt and that's an extra charge.

maybe tell her about the guy who only wants the front of the cake frosted. perhaps they can split it?

Oh, I like that extra charge. For those super special people.

LOL! My cards say award-winning cake designer. I think I should add that to my email signature line!

I don't care what ya call me as long as the name on the check is right! I'm sure that will become more important to me when I'm making enough to consider this a thriving business...

My brother is visiting and questioned why I needed more than 24 hours to complete a specialty order. I explained that just baking and cooling the cakes took time, and that each cake was made to the customers specifications, so it could only be made when the customer ordered it.

With a great deal of enthusiasm he told me that he could go the supermarket and get exactly what he wanted in 24 hours. When I told him that he wouldn't be getting anything like I could make, he made a very derisive snorting noise.

If I wasn't such a genteel person I would have hurt my hands strangling him to death.

HA!!! He just came into the kitchen to say that he takes it all back. He had no idea that so much work went into making a cake! As soon as I regain consciousness, I will thank him.

Hey everybody! Check out google.com ! This is clearly an attempt to direct traffic onto that site and away from cake central. Because everyone knows you can only have one browser open!

When people think I got into cake decorating so I can make really cheap cakes for them and anyone they know.  Or ask me to make the cake for free if they buy the ingredients.  Ugh.

Typical. Like the cost of ingredients is the major factor. Heck, I would offer to buy top of the line gourmet everything for their cake, they can have that part for free, but they are welcome to pay the labor.icon_biggrin.gif

over the top, I know), at least refer to me as a cake decorator icon_lol.gif

I agree! I am a cake decorator, not a cake lady. A long time client of mine calls me her "cake girl". Condescending much? I am 33, hardly a child. I have twins about to be teens, stretch marks, sagging... and hormone problems, I deserve some respect! icon_wink.gif

I prefer "cake *****" ( tht will probably be censored out)

If I got the cheap chevron cake order i'd just write back and say that my minimum is X amount and make it high enough that it scares them away. Which in this case would probably be something around $20.
