Not sure if they were disputing how much or what but the kept shaking out the fabric (large pieces, too, probably for curtains or drapes), looking at it, refolding it, with 3 or 4 different kinds, over and over. Finally, they opened a 2nd register. As I was getting ready to walk up there, the woman behind me tapped my shoulder and said "If you go through all of that, we'll kill you". Best laugh I've had in a while!

LOL!!! LOL!!!!!!!

That's bizarre. Had she seemed leery of your level of cake experience before?

My manager's partner's parents were celebrating a significant anniversary recently and their daughter wanted to get them a replica of their original 3 tier wedding cake. With two days notice she asked a colleague of mine (for yes, I have a full time job too!) if she thought I would be able to make the cake. Thankfully this question was never asked directly of me as my manager, when told that I would probably need more notice, replied "Why? It's only a replica of their wedding cake, how hard can it be?"  Phenomenal!

I'm sorry, but that just made me crack up laughing, how bizarre can people be...

I did a class where we made a two tiered (bottom teier was an extended tier) cake with a large sugar rose on it. I took the top tier in to work to share it. I had said to everyone, if you don't like the taste its not my fault as I didn't bake it, and explained I had done it in a clsss and they supply the cake and ganach already made. To which I got from someone, "so you spent two days and all you did was the pink bit?", it was covered in fondant, that had been airbrushed with a pearl sheen, so he thought that all I did was wack some icing on a cake. I was furious and showed him the picture of the full cake and said that it can take two days in a class setting to ganach, cover, airbrush and make a rose. To which he said "but you didnt even make the cake, how much time does it really take to do sonething like tat, i can make a cake and ice it in a day"
I went of my head and told him fine you try and make a cake with perfectly smooth icing, sharp corners and a realistic looking rose in a day and let me know how you go. Now everytime I take cake jn he askes if it took 3 weeks to make because I had to bake it myself.... He's on my banned list.. He gets no cake! Lol

I always bake from scratch and my friend asked last minute if I would make her cake. She said " I've got a box mix already ".  I was like suuuuure, I'll toss in a cup of water, some oil and 3 eggs in there for you *yawn*. I didn't mind since it made her happy. But when it was served my friend was all " he made my cake for meeeeeeee ", but then an other friend to whom I made a few cakes came and said " THIS IS THE BEST CAKE YOU EVER MADEEEEE ".... If I make you a chocolate and ganache cake with callebaut chocolate and this box taste better, no more cake for you.           -.-

Next time you take in a cake and he says that, tell him to "Get Out!"

There. Their. They're not the same.

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."

WTH! How does she know the other baker has more experience than you?

I don't think she did. I think she just found someone who would give her a ballpark price. Then she piled on the details and bugged the other baker until she got a $60 cake that the baker lost money on.

How about the excited nutcase designs?!  I opened my inbox to this today.....

"...We are having a big leaving party for (guy who works on dairy research) and we'd LOVE a 3D dairy cow cake........ it would be great if you could do two cows mounting...... or one cow calving......"

icon_confused.gif..................Just imagine the poor person who gets 'that' slice in either design!!!!! (I actually replied with those words)
