How to know what to use or how much? (custom cake)

I don't know if anyone can help me with this but I've just started getting into baking and I promised my friend I would make her a cake for her birthday on Friday (Nov. 16). I've been looking for recipes for what I want to make but none of them are exactly like what I'm looking for so I don't know how much to use of ingredients or what to use. If anyone can help me with this, I'd appreciate it. Here's a basic description:


- 4 layers (6 or 8 inch cake)

- two layers chocolate and two layers bright pink with lighter color chocolate cream (is it?) in between; kind of like this: 400 but with the pink layers and frosting covering whole cake in a way I can add decorations

- is it possible to make the outside frosting darker?

- I want to put 'flower' shaped frosting all around the top of the cake in pink color and write her name in pink as well

- will add pearl sprinkles or something like that on top

- here's a pic like how dark I want the outside frosting :

the two layers that you want pink, you would have to dye the cake batter if you are making yellow or white cakes for the 2 layers to be pink looking cake, unless you make 2 strawberry layers which would be kind of red. Normally people only fill their cake pans 1/2 to 2/3 full of batter.


The filling in between can be either chocolate ganache or you could mix dream whip with instant chocolate pudding which makes a good filling to put in between layers. Recipe for dream whip is on back of dream whip box. 


For Chocolate Ganache you would put 1/2 cup whipping cream in a small saucepan and bring cream just to a medium boil. (Do not let cream scorch) Pour over 1 cup chocolate chips. Stir in 1 tablespoon butter and once mixed good transfer to small bowl and refrigerate till thicker and can be spread in between cake layers.


There may be other people here that would have a lot better ideas than mine since I only do caking as a hobby.  As for making flowers you can look on you tube where they have many tutorials for making butter cream flowers. You would need icing tips of some sort with throw away bags. If you don't have icing tips you can go to you tube and see how this lady does flowers without tips but uses zip lock freezer bags and she shows how to cut bags to make the flowers with. This is her site below. Without icing tips, she will show you what to do.

On above you tube, the leaves on the flowers which are colored green are made with the very first ziplock baggie that she cut making the white flowers.

Since you are new at this and the event is only a few days away, I would suggest making two layers with a  chocolate cake mix and two layers with white or yellow cake mix that you have added some red food color to make it pink.  Pick any chocolate icing recipe and if it isn't dark enough you could add some brown food color to make it darker.
