Beautiful Chocolate Technique..how Do I ?

Hi,
Anyone know how to get that chocolate cage around the cake?
I have so many ideas but none of them seem to get the cage around so perfect! i was thinking getting a pan with the same size and piping around, letting it harden and then sliding it over the cake...all in the fear of it crumbling and melting on my fingers.
ANY experiences/methods/suggestions much appreciated!
I would cut a length of parchment paper the circumference of the cake. Pipe it, let it cool, then press against the cake.
I would do a drawing on a piece of paper (unless you're at drawing freehand) lay on top acetate paper (taping it so that it doesn't move) and pipe your drawing with chocolate. Wait a bit that it sets a little then put it around the cake. There is if i remember correctly a sticky in the first forum wich was called I think wrap your cake in chocolate... HTH
Pipe on the acetate or parchment/wax paper then wrap around a cake dummy? Then when dry, carefully remove, peel off the backing and set around your cake. This is how Collette did it in RI for her crafty class.
