I am going to make a three tier cake in two weeks time. its a sex and the city themed. it will be hot pink cake with black accents. my question is , can i spray pearl spray all over it to give it a nice shine OR is there anything else you can suggest, please let me know. sometime ago i remember someone saying to spray cooking oil, will that alter the taste? any recommendations, much appreciated.TIA
You can get a glaze spray that PME does that gives everything a really nice shiny look. The pearl spray may make your hot pink a little muted and your black accents more grey... depending on how much you use I guess. I would go with the glaze spray.
The pink-and-black bachelorette cupcakes in my gallery were fondant sprayed with the Wilton pearl spray. I was going for the exact look you are describing. I was pretty pleased with how the shine came out. My only complaint with the Wilton sprays is it sometimes comes out in bursts (i.e. a big clump of spray, then nothing). But maybe it's just user-error and I need a steadier hand
Thanks both of you. I went to the cake shop today and i asked the guy, he recommended the glaze but i was a bit scared. when i spoke to him about the pearl spray , he said it will alter the colour. i wish i had read yr suggestions before going =- for some reason, i didnt get the replies, till now just going through my posts. he suggested that i use pink shimmer instead, so i bought it. i will have to brush the 3 tiers with this shimmer.....errrr. last minute might change my mind and go in for one of yr suggestions. thanks heaps.
PME stocks a lustre spray. Available both in black and pink.
Also try dusting large areas with dusting powder from a large Blusher type brush.
