I am making a wedding cake for a Batman/ Wonder Woman themed wedding. Two of the tiers will have buildings wrapped around them. This is a first for me so I'm not too sure what the best way is to do it. I have thought about royal icing but how do i get it to curve and how difficult is it to make black royal icing? My least favorite option is fondant, because the cake will already be covered in fondant. What about gum paste?
If it were me, I'd go for modelling choc, if you search the recipes on CC for candy clay and then mix it 50-50 with black fondant you'll have something very workable.
I'd roll it out on some baking parchment, cut out your buildings and windows, brush a LITTLE water onto the back and then wrap it round your cake, it'll look great
You could do it in sections, the joins wouldn't be terribly visible and if you put a tile or glass/stone chopping board in the freezer for an hour then lay your modelling choc on that after rolling it out it will be easier to cut- you'll get a cleaner edge to your windows especially.
Have fun and cant wait to see your cake
Are you drying the building pieces prior to application? If so I'd go with a 50/50 gumpaste fondant mix or all gumpaste. If not, you could still go with the blend, or just fondant. CHocolate would work too, but might add more weight vs. the mix or fondant.
Oooohhhh I love the suggestion. Thank you very much. Might be the chicken dinner!!!! Thanks Crazy
