Hello cc'ers. I love this website, you guys are all so amazing!! I have learnt soooo much on here.
I'm trying to reach out to south Africans on this site (or others that do have any info). I want to increase my skills to the level where I can do wedding cakes. The classes offered here by most cover flower-making, 3d cakes etc. I am looking for good classes where I can learn intricate piping work, stacking cakes, using airbrushing etc. Have been googling and not finding much. Any tips or direction would be great... I am in Gauteng.

TIA!

icon_biggrin.gif Hi there, I too am South African recently relocating to the US and I can tell you that a Cake Decorating Academy does exist in Johannesburg where I am sure everything you want to learn is
in the curriculum. If you go to www.thecakegenie.co.za you will find info, class schedules, etc.
Hope you find what you are looking for! Good Luck!

More info - if you are in the east of Johannesburg you may want to check out the Chocolate Den
in Linksfield, they offer classes. Another option is the SugarArt Guild who's members give lessons all over the country, they do have a website, but you can inquire at Chefs and Icers, Sandton City.
I hope all this helps you. Let us know.

Hi Rina

Thank you! Yes, I"m very close to Edenvale, I know the Chocolate Den well. Their classes are good from what I hear, though not such intricate work apparently. Didn't know about Chefs and Icers, so I will definitely check that out, thank you.

Hi Pearl,
Adrienne, the instructor at Choc Den, as far as I know is a member of the Sugar Art Guild, so would be able to advise you on all the topics you are interested in learning. Glad to assist. Good Luck!

Great, I will check with her. Perhaps they do do what I"m looking for - my cousin attended the beginners classes and from what they covered there, I know how to do those already. I will definitely check again, as they are close and it would be ideal for me.

Hi, you can go to a Cake Decorating Academy in Mondeor, Johannesburg. Deon Swarts

runs this and you can check out his schedules on www.thecakegenie.co.za.  Further you

can contact the SugarArt Guild, many of their members teach privately. Chefs and Icers in

Sandton City can give you contact numbers for the guild. Hope this helps.

Contact the South African Cake Decorators Guild, the list of branches is on this page. http://sacdg2.webs.com/gauteng.htm  you can contact the chairperson and they will be able to tell you who  teaches in your area. there are a lot of ladies that tailors the classes to suit your needs. I know the person that teached in my area is much more flexible with her classes than the ones at the Chocoale Den or Cake Genie.

Alternatively you can look at the culalnery school. www.prueleith.co.za/  Thelma Lockhart teaches a decorating class there, she is a past president  and also an excellent judge of the SACDG, so her class is absolutely amazing and covers everything.

Also the SACDG is hosting our National show this year, its going to be in March in Pretoria. That will also be amazing as we are going to be seeing a lot of overseas decorators. The details are also on the website.
