Uh Oh. I need help!

I have a mild problem. My sweet little girl turns three in December and she informed me she wanted an Olivia the Pig party, but she wants Olivia in her cow costume. I have the cake in my head, I know how I will do it, my two issues are leaving me stumped.

I want one tier to be cow print, but I wanted the black parts to be smooth with the white. I assume I would roll the white a little thick, place the black spots where I want them and continue rolling until I have the right thickness over all. Would that be correct? I really want to do this right.

My second issue is the topper. Since this is not a common theme there is no topper, and I am not sure I could sculpt it myself. I've found a Madame Alexander doll that has the costume, but it's $60. I've found a few ladies on etsy that say they can make it even though they've never made it before, my only concern is what if they can't and I am left without a topper. Being that her birthday is in December I have to order a few months ahead of time. Anyone have any tips to help with these issues? Maybe tips on how to sculpt it myself? It looks hard, but so do a lot of simple things.

I've made birthday cakes, just for friends, family and fun, and I've done some fondant work to help a friend with several orders, but that's it. icon_sad.gif Never really done any fondant sculpting and I am not sure how to make the suit. LOL!

Any help would be great. I'm just a bit nervous and want to do as much research as I can. TIA!

Hi,

I'm sure that you could do the cow print the way that you described OR you could hand paint the cow print onto the your cake directly. That is if your not too nervous to try it that way.

Also, what I would do to make Olivia in a cow costume topper is, I would make her in 2 pieces (head and body). It probably would be easier for you to make her body, paint on the cow prints or use very very thin black cow prints and attach to the body. Then attach her head. I use RKTs to make the majority of my figures but, you could use a 50/50 mixture (gumpaste/fondant).

I hope this helps. Good Luck

Also, if your going to do your top tier in cow print, I would leave the very top of that tier plain white. Because Olivia will be wearing a cow costume you don't want her to blend into the cake itself.

Maybe this is an option:

It's an 8" plush toy for $12.99.

Yes, the middle tier is the cow print. icon_smile.gif I am going to try the gum paste fondant mix. I tried some polymer clay last night to see if I could even sculpt it, I think I can. I get nervous about things that are hard to find a back up. LOL! Thank you for your help. icon_smile.gif
