Hi, I have just covered one of my cakes in fondant and it was sticking to my pin like crazy so I have had to use a fair amount of corn flour. I have have tried to wipe off as much as I can with my hand, paper towel and a fondant smoother but it still looks dusty.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of it without making the cake look shiny?

You can brush it with a food-safe paintbrush dipped in vodka, just don't have it dripping wet, and the alcohol will evaporate. Some folks swear by rubbing it with shortening, but I find it leaves it shiny and sticky.

You can also rub it with another piece of fondant. I heard this works well. icon_smile.gif

Because of this issue, I avoid all dusts when rolling out fondant.

I roll it out on a smear of crisco (vegetable shortening) on a piece of The Mat (food safe vinyl) OR directly on my solid surface countertop (again, with a smear of crisco. No clean up needed for the fondant or the counter.

Misting it with vodka will work very well.

The ball of fondant used to 'polish' the fondant is something that has been used for a long time - it really does work and is great for giving all your cakes a really 'satiny' look
