It is a 55# x 0.1 oz. Digital Postal Shipping Scale V2, and I thought it was a GREAT deal. Anyone else here use something similar to this?
I don't know about a postal scale. First consider that kitchen scales are protected from little spills and they are food safe. You will find neither on a postal scale. And one little spill, which will happen often, will fry your scale.
There are plenty at BB&B, Sur La Table, and Williams-Sonoma. The magic number seems to be $50.00
I just thought of an idea since you have already purchased it. Try always using a piece of wax paper or plastic wrap to protect against spills.
Also in a kitchen scale, the tare mode, or taking it back to zero, is a much needed feature. Also, does the scale convert from oz to grams? So many recipes are coming out with grams, especially the more advanced recipes.
I recently purchased and OXO digital scale from William Sonoma. I love it! It easily converts from oz to grams, converts back to zero and has become my must have. I prefer to measure flour, sugar, etc by weight as it is so much more accurate.
I don't like postal scales. Any scale I use lives in a gallon ziplock so it doesn't get destroyed so that can be a moot point. Most postal scales weigh the thing then freeze in place for a minute or whatever. It makes sense with weighing actual packages but is infuriating when trying to weigh ingredients.
I love love love the escali brand scales and my Pana V136 goes up to 13.5 pounds or something. Pretty inexpensive too.

I love that one too. I have 3, two at different houses and one at the office (you never know when you're going to need to weigh something). And I like that one especially because the digital reader pulls out if your bowl is bigger. I also put mine in a gallon ziploc bag. I use mostly grams, but I'm glad it has pounds and ounces for when I'm giving those other measurements.
imagen, good idea about the ziplock. Mine is always a mess. I think it's a Salter from WS. It has the clear glass platform, but it always looks dull. I don't use windex on it.
Well, I got this on Friday, it converts all these: kg, g, oz, and lb. and it works great. Has Tare on it, and I have already completely covered it in clear Contact paper for future spills. I have to say, it was well worth the money for me, and it even has brand new batteries in it. I ordered and got it in 3 days.
That is great. Now you know the ebay seller thinks you are a drug dealer. Yea, cake... right. Kidding. Enjoy your new scale.
