I've been asked to make a replica of a lantern from Tangled for a birthday this coming weekend and I needed to ask a couple of questions.
1. What's the best way to stack something so tall without it toppling over?
2. Am I better off covering it with fondant (for stability) instead of buttercream?
I've never had to do a tall cake like this before so it's a little daunting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry but i am not up to speed as to a lantern from Tangled
How tall are we talking?

It needs to be about 10 inches tall.
I did a Birthday Cake a few months back that was 10 inches tall.
An 8 inch round.....3 x 3 inch Mud cakes - torted with ganache filling -
I stacked and filled it carefully and then covered in fondant -
Nothing moved in the 50 minute trip to deliver - or the walk up two flights of stairs.
It was one very heavy cake - but it was fine.
I prefer to work with Fondant - i finished it about 9 hours before i needed to deliver it - and it had set up beautifully.
Here is a link for you to see it
