Hi all.. I am currently using the wilton roll and cut mat for fondant/gumpaste but it slides all around my counter top! I tape it but it still slides.. I need suggestions as to a good non-slip mat.. thanks!
I have the same Wilton mat and hardly ever use it for the same reason you are discovering. What I use now is a large Silpat. It does not slide at all.
I too had this same problem. I packed away the silicone mat about 2 yrs ago. Was a bad investment. No type of tape could have ever held in down. Used to slide all over my counter top.
I roll on a single piece of The Mat.
I "attached" it to my solid surface countertop by dampening the counter with water, placing the piece of The Mat on the water, and then using a squeegee (new from the Dollar Store) over The Mat--that drives out air bubbles & excess water. I dried around the excess water from around the edges and it was ready to go.
It stays in place for over 6 months. I wipe it down, don't put hot things on it--and I never cut on it with anything sharp. I use an OXO plastic pizza cutter to cut fondant and when I use cookie cutters, an X-acto blade, or a knife, I transfer whatever I'm cutting to a .50 flexible cutting mat from the Dollar Store.
I find the silicone mats to be dirt magnets and very hard to get really clean. If I have to use one (because of size issues), I put a silpat(s) UNDER it and that keeps it in place on the counter but eliminates the "pattern" on the silpat from being transferred to the fondant.
