I'd like to make a Helter Skelter cake. How would you suggest I attach the slide to the side bearing in mind -

1. I want it to look like a slide and not a chunky box running around the outside
2. I want the sides of the Helter Selter to be flush so that i can decorate with vertical stripes
3. I'd like to make filligree border to the slide so it looks like ornate iron work (was thinking of making this in panels out of piped royal icing.

Thanks for your help

Sam

Are you making a tiered cake or a cone shaped cake?

Thanks for pictures. I'd like to do a cone shape. How would I attach the slide? I don't think the usual glues would hold its weight.

I would think the sturdiest would be to insert lollipop sticks sideways into the cake and then lay the slide on top. Please note, I've never made a cake like this, but I have attached cookies to cakes this way. As long as the cake is very firm and the sticks sink deeply enough in the cake to support the weight you shouldn't have any trouble. Good luck - can't wait to see!

Oooh, great tip, thanks. Been a bit paranoid about poking anything into my cakes as we have quite strict rules here in the uk, but i think this should be ok.

Thanks again

AHi, Did you use pastillage for your slide as I would like to make something similar. Not sure which paste is best. Any help most appreciated.
