My husband has watched me make cakes for others, and now he wants one! No occasion...just wants his own cake! I decided to make him a white box cake (call me lazy) that has pudding in the mix. I also want to add pudding to it (saw a cheescake pudding and want to see how that combo would taste). Would it still work? Adding to pudding to a cake mix that already has it in it? Also, I think I read that if you add pudding mix to a cake, that you add an extra egg? Thanks so much for any help!

That's a good question I wonder that as well. But if I am not mistaken you still add the pudding and less water than normal and one more egg. I might be wrong but I think that's what you do.

When I make my chocolate cakes, I use DH devils food cake, follow the directions on the box and add 1 chocolate pudding cup/box. I have not heard 1 complaint yet!

I use Betty Crocker cake mixes. One box mix, 1/2 cup water, 4 egg whites (or whole eggs if using chocolate), 1/3 cup oil, 1 cup sour cream and 1 3 oz box instant pudding (I use white chocolate for white cake to keep the cake white but cheesecake would also work)

I usually use Duncan Hines mixes and add one box of instant pudding mix for each box used because DH doesn't already have pudding mix in it.

With the weight changes & price increase in DH recently, I'm also using some Betty Crocker mixes and they already have pudding mix in them, so no, I don't add more to them. It's helping me keep my cost down quite a bit.

I believe that Pillsbury also already has pudding mix in it, but I'm not fond of their product.

I use DH too & I find that since the change my cakes are dry. No one has complained, but I've noticed the difference. I was wondering about adding pudding to the mix. Glad to know it can be done. So, all you do is add the pudding and follow the directions on the DH mix? No adjusting???

With the smaller mixes, I take a 3rd box, shake the bag around well to mix the contents, and add an additional 4.5 oz. of mix. I save the rest for another batch. So far, the results are great.

What exactly does adding pudding to the mix do for the cake?

I find, that when added in conjunction with sour cream, both the flavor and moistness are greatly enhanced.

Do you mean you add already-made actual pudding? I know BlakesCakes uses a box of pudding mix.
Others here - when you say you add pudding, do you actually add pudding or do you add the dry pudding mix?
