I am wondering if there are any Wilton colors I can mix together to get a very bright red without using the whole container of red gel food coloring I have.. Only because I have 2 cakes to do and I need red for both and to get a bright red I only know to use almost the whole container.. I thought I had seen somewhere colors that you could mix to get a bright red without using as much red food coloring...

Thanks for any feedback!

I usually work in b'cream and this is what I do: Start by tinting your white icing a deep, bold, pink OR orange OR yellow before adding any red.
Also, if you don't mind having the icing flavored you can add about 1/4 teaspoon (per cup of icing) of UNsweetened KoolAid powder. I prefere to use black cherry but any red flavor can be used. If yyou do this, make the color up the night before - or anytime that it can sit about 8-12 hrs. I usually keep it in the frig durring this time. When ready to use it it might have dark spots, don't be concerned! Just stir it well and they will disappear and you will have a great colored icing that tastes goodicon_smile.gif

Ditto.. That's how I get mine red. First I color orange and then add red. The deeper the red, less orange more red, the brighter (as in Christmas red) little more orange.

But be careful, you still need a fair amount of color for them to be bright. Otherwise it will just be pale red, etc.
