A friend of mine really wants the cake I am going to post a picture of.... I told her that I haven't worked much with fondant, nor do I have any sort of leaf cookie cutter to make the design around the edge of the cake or to make the marbled effect inside of the cake... Does anyone have any tips that I could do to make this cake without going and spending a whole bunch of money??

I don't have the extra right now to buy the cookie cutters or anything to make the cake.. I normally do my cakes in buttercream with just a few fondant accents that take a lot of cookie cutters.

That leaf cutter (wilton) is actually only 4 bucks for the set (maybe 3 I don't remember). Buttt you can always hand cut it with an exacto knife. just make sure they're the same size for each side

I live no where near a craft store.. The closest thing I have is Wal mart and that is an hour away.. I would have to order them and then pay shipping.. It's a last minute thing, I am trying to get her to chance the design to something different... But wanted some feedback on a few other thing's I could do..

You can make an oval shaped leaf by overlapping cuts made by a round (circle) cutter. Just cut two circles side by side, then cut right in the middle of the two. You can cut a whole row of circles, then go back and cut in between to get the oval shapes.

If you are looking for something cheap, just print off a template off a leaf and cut it out.... put it over the fondant and cut away. It will be time consuming and you will need to use a sharp knife or smooth out the edges when your done cutting them... but it should work...

good luck... it's a super cute cake!
