I have just received a request for five gum paste roses for tomorrow at noon. Two small, a medium, and two large. Usually for wedding cakes I just work them into the price. I've never sold them individually. Any thoughts on priced "Last minute" roses? Thanks all! icon_biggrin.gif

I only sell them on a cake so I can't help you there. If I did sell them alone I would also charge a rush fee. Would you have enough time for the flowers to dry? My large roses need more than a day to dry.

Yeah, I would hope the small and medium would be dry. I just need to make sure the gum paste is plenty thin! I think a rush fee is appropriate as well...

I just recently watched a video from Jennifer Dontz who talked about pricing her GP flowers. She said to take into consideration what real flowers cost per flower, and then how much work goes into the flower you are making. A GP rose could be priced just under what a real rose cost, but a hydrengia (sp?) would probably cost lots more. Also, calla lilies, which are very expensive as real flowers, are probably one of the easiest to make in GP, but you don't want to price too low.

HTH!

Thanks all for your responses. I just talked to the wedding planner who wanted 3 small and 2 large roses... for $3 each, I laughed. Honestly, the day before a wedding??? And she wanted be to deliver them. I gave her a quote of $50 plus delivery fee to which she replied, there is no way they would pay $50 for them. Just not worth my time, IMO!

well , then, now you get to rest!!! Like i use to say at the beauty shop, i,d rather sit and twiddle my thumbs, than to work on a person that doesn,t want my prices and tried to make me come down. I,d tell them, where a shop might be down the road that could help them. lol!!!

She wanted you to do all of that work for $15 lousy dollars icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_confused.gificon_cool.gificon_mad.gificon_evil.giftapedshut.gif

I'm in awe of how truly ridiculous some people can be! Didn't she HEAR herself asking for something so absurd?

She can get 18 real roses at Costco for $15.99 or she can get 5 nice silk roses at Michael's for $10...................she CAN"T get 5 handmade, custom ordered, edible roses delivered for $15!!!

So glad you set her straight!
Enjoy your evening.

holy cow, let me pull those roses out of my butt for you...Yeah, I'm fast at making roses but I wouldn't sell them for $3 each. I have peonies listed for $35 each on etsy and I sell a good number of them. It's interesting, though, I have more clients from certain parts of the country than others, so it depends on what the prices are like in their markets, most likely.
