Hi I was wondering how edible petal dust is made. wondering if i could do it myself? Not the non toxic with soft pastels and corn flour method, but edible dust!
thanks
One of the Alan Dunn books explains that petal dust is ground up dry gumpaste plus food colour. The gum makes it stick when you dust fresh paste and when you steam.
Now that sounds to me like a LOT of work to make at home. The other benefit of buying dusting powder is the time and effort it takes to blend those colours.
So I would spend the time to find the best prices online, and then get a reasonable number of colours. Calculate how much time you save and you will see that buying (especially the larger containers) makes sense.
Sometimes, buying is best.
You can buy powdered food colors, primaries, white, & black, and mix custom colors
OR
you an go to sugarpaste.com and buy Crystal Colors FDA Kosher edible food colors that are pre-mixed and come in over 40 colors.

Thank you both for the replies. It does sound like a huge amount of work, Think I'll stick to buying
