When I did my first FBCT, I left it in the freezer for an hour and it turned out perfect. When I did my second one, I ran into some problems. After an hour I tried to put it on the cake, but it was stuck to the wax paper. So I put it in the freezer overnight. When I put it on the cake in the morning, it looked great at first but then condensation set in. It got all spotted! I tried to dab the spots up with a paper towel, but it made the colors run together. Is there any way to avoid this or a better way to fix it if it does happen?

Thanks!!

What do you mean by spotted, spotted with drops of condensation or spotted with white spots or what?

I have my first fbct in the freezer right now, I can't put it on the cake until tomorrow as I haven't yet baked the cake and I'm to tired to do it right now icon_cry.gif

I am hoping I don't have a problem with the colors running, please tell me it will be ok icon_eek.gif

Well, you know, I haven't had problems with the colours running on these, some people do. It may depend on the icing recipe folks are using, it just hasn't happened to me yet. So good luck kiddo!

Do you freeze your's overnight as well Squirrelycakes?

This is my first one and it is sooooooooo cute. Had a blast doing it. Of course here in TN the humidity is higher but right now it isn't to bad. I am hoping when I put it on the cake tomorrow the colors won't run.

Well, here is my first attempt at a fbct. I am disappointed as I didn't mush the icing down enough I guess as it is a little pitted in spots.

I did end up leaving it in the freezer overnight and it worked fine. I made it for my neighbor next door who just brought her brand new baby girl home. Took it over right after I finished so I don't know if the colors ran. It was frozen pretty good. Thanks for all your tips and suggestions and the instructions in the article section walked me right through everything. My dh was so impressed icon_biggrin.gif

Awhh, that is so cute, I love elephants! Yes, I freeze overnight and for up to two weeks.
I think that sometimes we get these lines because the waxed paper or parchment or whatever does that. It is like as you touch icing to it, it kind of lifts up even though you tape the paper down along the edges it tends to lift up in the centre. I have thought of using the spray adhesive to keep the parchment or waxed paper in place, but it can get really hard to remove the glue residue once it is on the plexiglass or board. Sometimes as soon as I take it out of the freezer, I use the little fondant rolling pin to get rid of the lines or I smooth the areas with my fingers, after I dip them in icing sugar.
But really, that is just adorable!

southernbelle,

Really cute job. I did take a close look at your FBCT picture in your gallery though, and it looks to me like your fill-in icing was too thick. It looks like you can see the lines where you piped the icing in, and that's why it has that look. Make sure your fill-in icing is thinned sufficiently to allow the icing to puddle in the areas you put it.

Let us know how your next one goes!
