I tried to work with my purple fondant for the first time. I used the shorten to cover my board so the fondant would't stick. So how come my fondant is not smooth. It has a lot of crack in it. Did I do something wrong?

It's reall hard to say. Did y ou make the fondant from scratch or buy some?
It sounds like it is too dry - maybe you need to knead in some more shortening. Sometimes just an extra tablespoon will help.

I don,t know why, but i have found that purple , lavender, violet colored fondant, dries out fast. Is it mmf, fondant from scratch or did you buy it. A little glycerine will help soften it also to make it more pliable.hth
