I am making a tiered cake that should be 150 servings. The bride says she prefers three tiers but would be fine making it 4 tiers. I have been trying to look for what size tiers would be best to make up this cake and have come up short! I would prefer to keep the bottom tier to 12" round but understand if I have to make it larger. Any help? Thanks in advance!

5-8-11-14 would be best. A lot of people have "3 tiered cake" stuck in their brains for some reason. It's not always realistic.

Thank you for your feedback! I am trying to stick with pan sizes I already have though, so do you think 8", 10" 12" ad 14" will work? If my math is correct that gets to 155 servings. I just don't know if an 8" top tier is too large....

I personally consider a 6" top tier too big, I try to stay at 4 or 5, so an 8 is positively gargantuan to me. I would carve it down maybe? I couldn't do it with an 8" top tier, so I'd personally figure something else out. Sorry.

I think the 8" will be too big, as well. What about 6,9,12,14 I just had to do one this size. It worked out great, but was really hard to transport.

Shiny Metal Objects (http://shinymetalobjects.net/cake/calculator/cakulator.cgi?option=2&option=Select+Cakulator) is a good site for playing aroung with sizes. I too prefer a 4'' or 5'' top tier to avoid the squat look.

Do the three tiers that you are comfortable with and do kitchen cakes for the rest of the servings.

Thank you all for your input! I think I will present both the 8",10", 12", 14 and 6", 9", 12", 14" options and see what the bride and groom think. Thanks again this was very helpful!
