Can anyone suggest which cake ingredients make the house smell amazing? We are about to sell our house and I thought I'd bake something right before the open homes to make it smell good.
I was thinking cinnamon and brown sugar smells pretty good...?
Any baking will smell good. Just make sure the oven is clean so there's no meatloaf spatter mixed in with the sugar cookies.
Years ago, my oven died just as I started my baking for the day. A friend of mine knew the house next to hers was vacant and for sale, so she contacted the owner who gave permission for me to use the oven.
The house was shown while I was in there baking. They commented on the aroma the moment they walked in. They bought the house.
BTW, I was baking only white cakes.
I think my favorite aroma wafting from the kitchen is bread baking. When the house next door was for sale, the realtor baked pies.
Spiced candied nuts baby! That smell was in my house for a week after I made them! I did them on the stovetop though, not the oven.
With a commercial kitchen on the ground floor of my home, it always smells like a bakery, even when I'm not baking.
When a client comes to the bakery, I keep a simmering pot of vanilla and spices in water on low on the stove.
For selling a house, I would make something that not only smells good, but can be served to the prospects. A platter of chocolate chip cookies with bottled water would be my choice.
