I'm getting legal and want to start leaving business cards with my cakes.

My initial "feeling" was that I was going to use "Sweet Melissa's Baked Goods". But now that I'm doing it now, I'm thinking I want to stick with cakes and perhaps decorated cookies, but mainly, I want to advertise that I'm a "natural baker".

Now, I don't grind my own wheat or used unrefined sugar, but I do use organic dairy and eggs and no artificial ingredients or transfats and I think that's something that also sets me apart...

So how to incoporate that in a business card and email siggie?

You could do a simple name such as "Sweet Melissa's" and then in smaller print underneath that state "We offer all organic ingredients please inquire at time of order" or "Made with fresh, natural, organic ingredients".

As for your email siggie my states simply:

My name
My Company Name
My City and State
My company Email
My personal Email
My website link

Which is probably way too much but it works lol I don't include my company phone number in my email signature because it's my cell phone number currently. But I do include it on my business cards. My cards are a little over done with info as well but it works for me and people seem to like them. I'm thinking of redoing them after I move to include a little less info lol Currently included is the company logo, mine and my husbands names, my phone number, and a short blurb stating what we offer such as cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, showers, etc. cookies, brownies and more.

Hope this info helps icon_smile.gif

I think the fact that you offer organic ingredients is great and should be capitalized on.... so why not something like Sweet Melissa's Organic Cakes? You have a product that not too many offer and you should make it stand out.

I agree with OhMyGoodies about your email siggie... if you have a separate phone number than a cell use it. I have found that most people contact me through my email, which is good, because i can save it to a folder, that way if something comes back wrong, I have the email to fall on.. happened before.. couldn't remember how to spell a name and the person would NEVER answer the phone that weekend.. found the email, saved the day!

Good luck!

For your bussiness cards, how about: "Sweet Melissa's", Organic Cakes and Cookies (in smaller print underneath). It states who you are and what you make. Include your contact info such as email and phone.

Your email signature should state your name, company name, address, and business phone and fax(if applicable). You wouldn't need to include your email address in an email sig. because if you are sending an email, the address will show in the mailbox.

Do you think they would get htat if I use organic ingredients that I don't use artificial ingredients like artificial vanilla? Or things like crisco?

And... my flour and sugar isn't organic, so is that misleading? Finding those in organic isn't important to me as they aren't necessarily better (IMO) where for dairy and eggs I think they taste A LOT better and have definite health benefits too.

You could put something simple like a small note stating "We use Organic Dairy and Eggs in everything we make."

I think that is a good idea. That way you aren't accidentally misleading anyone. But make sure you state somewhere what is you make so people aren't left wondering. Something like:

Sweet Melissa's
Cakes and Cookies
We use organic dairy and eggs in everything we make

If you use Sweet Melissa's Baked Goods, people will assume you mean any and all baked goods. Stating Cakes and Cookies limits it to what you really want to make.

Melissa, keep it "sweet and simple"..lol get it?

Something like

"Sweet Melissa's Baked goods"

Sweet & Oh So Good For You
Made with organic ingredients

This way, in one simple sentence you explain WHY your goodies may cost a little more than the norm, and WHY they are better than ordinary baked goods!

You can tweek the wording to suit you..but you get the idea!! I'm soooo happy for you taking that scary step to become lic.

I hope that your hubby now sees that you're serious about this and gives you a little more support.

But, anyway..you have US all here!! and we will give you our support freely!!

((HUGS TO YOU))

and anyone one else considering this step!

Well, hubby isn't a 'believer" and this is still an on the side thing... but since it's cheap to get licensed here and not an investment of a life time, he's going along with it for now!

I like something and Sweet Melissa's, Not so sinfully!, made with organic dairy and eggs...

no.. that's not right either... Iwant catchy, but not stupid (and I tend to edge towards goofy! LOL)

Melissa,

I got into serious baking when my son was smaller and I didn't want to aggravate his ADHD with all the additives they put into snack foods.

If I had acess to a baker like you I would've paid anything for the baked goods!

I didn't want to deny my family sweet snacks but I also didn't want my young son bouncing off the walls!

I think that you will suceed, even in a limited market because you have an unique product. Something IS coming your way..why else would it be so inexpensive for you to get legal that even your hubby can't complain!? lol

are there any excersice or yoga studios near you? You can also market your products there...also..in the Health food stores!

you do have some vegans that eat dairy!!

and if you're tweeking recipes..keep track of what works!! before you know it...you may be writing your own cook book!

How about something along the lines of 'wholesome', or natural? "Pure Sweetness"?

My email signature just has my name, my company name, "Check out my Cake Photo Gallery", and a link to my website. (my website has my phone number and other contact info on the home page.)

I really love all the suggestions already given!
Since you don't use Crisco thumbs_up.gif , I would also put "No Trans Fats" or 0 Trans Fats" with all the other taglines.

This is what I'm "working" with right now...

Top line in big letters, second line in italics, and bottom line small.

Sweet Melissa's Pure Cakes
Offering only the Finest Ingredients
Organic Dairy and Eggs, Unbleached flours and no Trans Fats
