I am wondering if anyone could tell me how you would attach Buzz Lightyear wings to the side of a cake, similar to the wings in the attached picture. The cake will be a mudcake so it will be fairly dense however I am worried about the wings ripping the sides of the cake. Also what would you make the wings out of?

I would make the wings out of cardboard and cover them completely with fondant. You can insert bamboo skewers (like 3) deeep into teach wing and deeep into the cake.

I would make one wing with at least three skewers in it--- the top & bottom one would extend at least 1/2 the length of the other wing. The middle one could be shorter, but would still need to extend some distance from side of the cake.

I'd insert the first wing into the cake so that the bottom skewer touched, or came very close to touching, the cake board of the tier it was in, and then I'd put the other wing onto the 3 skewers sticking out the other side of the tier.

I'd want the wings to be balancing each other in weight and set so that the bottom skewer could rest on the cake board of the tier.

Hope that all makes sense. I can see it in my head, but sometimes words fail.
