I made my "25" out of gumpaste a few days ago and let it harden. Those suckers were hard as a rock. I had to wait until this morning to airbrush them, because it was raining all day yesterday and I airbrush outside to prevent a rainbow kitchen. Well, as I accidentally broke the "5" when picking it up to paint the back side. DANG IT!!!!

Anyone have any brilliant quick fixes that I can't think of???? They are for the top of the cake, so they need to be standing up. It broke at the bottom at the two point I inserted my straws to poke in the cake.

Oh yeah, delivery is in about an hour........

I would try to glue it back with some gum paste glue.

I tried that, it just isn't holding up strong enough. I think I will try melted chocolate (the superglue of the cake world) when I get there. I altered the design a little and made a smaller 25 to go on the board instead of on top, just in case. Thank goodness it is for a friend and it isn't in the original design anyway.

It is moments like this I am glad I am not in business and am just making free cakes for friends and family. I get to play with the design a bit. WHEW!!!!!

HAHAHAHA!!!! icon_lol.gif That is what I usually do, but this time I didn't for some unknown reason. Now I am kicking myself in the behind. Oh well!!! I made another after it broke, but I don't think it will be hard enough to stand up by then. icon_cry.gif

I'm sure it's too late for this time but you could 1) make another # and attach to the back of the broken one OR
2) 'ice' the back of the # w/chocolate.

Thanks so much everyone. I when I got there the 2nd one I made was hard enough (I hope) to stay up, so I used it. Luckily they have the topper from their wedding to place on top if the nunber breaks. So two backup plans later, it should be fine.

Glad it worked out. Just wanted to let you know that chocolate does a wonderful job as "glue". For my great-niece's birthday cake, I broke one of the fairy wings while putting it on the cake. It held up just fine. I was a little concerned on the bumpy ride over to the venue but it held up.
