My in laws are celebrating their 50th anniversary and my mom in laws 75 th bday next month with a party ( the guest any where from 80- 125 to who knows as they have left a open invite with their church) my sis in laws would like a sheet cake as the in laws didnt have a wedding or reception just a visit to a court house and have no pictures so a replica cake is out as are a then and now photo cake, so here is why i am bugging u all, ? Q 1, what are your thoughts on ordering a nice small tired cake for the table and baking and decorating a sheet cake for extra cake? Q2 the sis in laws would like to see both celebrations on The cake, i was thinking but a gold #50 on top with either names or monogram on the tiered cake and have bday on the sheet i think all of that would be a bit much on one cake (my mom in law suffers from schlerderma so there wont be a cutting of the cake) 3 what is the best way to transport a full sheet cake, i will have the other one delivered as i remember the nightmare of fixing cakes at receptions? I thank u all again for your help in this matter, hugs to u
UUgggggggg I had a nice long reply for you when some for unknown reason I got disconnected
It would be ever so nice to make a small tier then have some sheets for the rest of the servings. I would focus mostly on making a really nice tiered for them.
I also suggestyou make 2,3 or more smaller sheets than one full sheet. One can get many servings from a 12x16 (or 1 x 2 sheet (If I remember right 4. It is much easier to handle in baking, decorating and delivering than a true 'full sheet' - which I believe would be 24x18x2. For a full sheet one needs to glue together 2 boards or use a piece of wood for strength or the cake might flex , causing cracks in the icing etc. It also would mean making sure the vehicle, doors and hallways used are big enough for that size board. I've run into problems when I didn't measure!
It would be nice to make the tier cake the focus of the anniversary, then make what we call a 'satilite' cake - a smaller side cake that is displayed next to the main cake. It can be any size and shape you want. Does not necessarily need to be a sheet.
