Just filled the bottom tier and the top of the cake cracked when I tried to stack it!! Can I fix this or should I bake another?? Please help! Thanks!
Is the cake for a customer or just a cake for friend/family that is not being paid for?
If it is a paid cake, then bake another one. Throw the broken one in the freezer to make cake balls at a later date.
It's family. Free cake. But I'm worried bcz I'll be stacking an 8in cake on top of this 10inch cake. I tried a lil extra filling to level things out. It's a lightning looking crack in the center. Hope my top layer doesn't sink.
then no worries about it sinking in....the board will support the 8inch tier. In the future, it will be much easier to handle cakes if you let them cool, and wrap them in saran wrap, then pop in the freezer for a little while (cakes can be frozen for an hour up to few months, and it doesn't effect freshness, in fact it traps in moisture to them). If you freeze the cake, it will be much easier to handle when stacking them, and you won't have to worry about cracking cakes.
Thank you! I was able to cover it w/buttercream. My first tiered cake and first time fondant. Thanks again!
