Hello. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to make a true red icing. I normally used a gel and used a color called super red. It's not as red as I would like it. I've used almost the entire amount although it was smaller than my normal gel containers. Tiny actually. I'm about to make black and I'm worried I'll have the same problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Red, navy blue and black are the hardest colors to make.
Let your red just sit and it will darken over time and some more when exposed to air on the cake.

For black it is suggested you mix together any and ALL colors you have = best to save them up when you finish a decorating project and have a couple of tablespoons of icing left. Instead of throwing it out just save it in a container in the fzr, then when you need black mix it all together and don't worry about what it looks like at this point, just add black paste/jel color until you get a charcoal gray, As w/the red, in time it will darken more. Others add cocoa powder & brown gel to make a dark brown then add black.
