I'm making a mardis gras cake this weekend and thought it might be nice to try out my air brush. The air brush I have though is a regular paint air brush, but has never been used, so I was curious if it were possible to use as one for cakes? Thanks!

IF the airbrush is unused, has had no paint blown through it and if you can get a low PSI air pressure from your compressor. Then yes, you can use it.

My airbrush isn't one specifically for cakes and it is great. I was bought it by my fiancée new so I knew that it had not been used for anything else. Exactly what sweetcakes said really, obviously if it has been used for other paints then these can be toxic and so you don't want that on your cake.

There is no special airbrush for doing cakes, there is only compressors that have a low enough PSI that is marketed for doing cakes. As long as you can turn yours down low you'll be fine.

I'm looking into buying an airbrush too - what would constitute "low enough" PSI for the compressor?

i'd really like for my compressor to maintain 18-20 PSI consistently, but mine just can't ... it can only hold higher PSIs fluidly. i'm in the market for a better compressor, so i'm all ears too!

My little Pegasus is 15psi. I think the larger Badgers go as high as 30 but 15 is good enough for home/small time usage.
