I bought The MAT in 2010. I watched the videos before using it and loved it-at first anyway. I don't make many cakes and only used it 6 times or less when I noticed it had what I can only describe as "stretch marks" They showed up in the fondant of course. I never folded THE MAT, always laying it flat until I could roll it and put it back in the original tube. Has anyone else had this problem? The company, Sweet Wise, said they had 4 or 5 complaints about this same problem and they said they have made the newer mats thicker and stiffer. If they only had 5 complaints I wonder why did they find it necessary to "improve" the product??. I also wonder how many people just didn't complain to them. I had the problem a long time before I e-mailed them. They offered me a whole $5 rebate if I want to order one again. I offered to mail the defective product back to them, an offer they did not take me up on. I am disappointed that they really don't stand behind their product. I worry about ordering another one since I had so little use out of the first one. Has anyone else had stretch mark problems? Do most companies stand behind their defective merchandise better then Sweet Wise?

I have had similar issues, I don't roll fondant out on my Mat any more. I will sometimes use it to cover fondant I've rolled out on my blue silicone mat to keep it from drying. I did iron it once (low setting with a cloth between iron and Mat) to get out the stretch/wrinkle marks but it only slightly helped and only for that one time. I love the concept of The Mat, I thought maybe it was just me and I hadn't been rolling it up carefully, but I guess not.

I did not complain to the company, though I'm not the type to complain unless it is a big ticket item that can be repaired, I just won't buy anything from them again.

I bought the mat after hearing so much about it on this site but it's been relegated to the 'things I regret buying' corner. It worked well once and since then I've had nothing but trouble so don't even bother trying to use it anymore.

I'm very glad to read this, because I was thinking of ordering one. I guess I won't. It looked like a great product too, and I was excited like the rest of you. But I will pass on the product.

Thank you for speaking up. I (and others I'm sure) really appreciate it. Like most things, it is too good to be true I guess.

Take Care.

I've no experience to offer, I just wanted to thank you all (and everyone else who has posted on the forums about the Mat) for the information, as I've been considering buying one despite the shipping costs being twice the price of the mat, but have been convinced not to waste my money on it. So, thank you icon_smile.gif

I bought the MAT after hearing so much about it and watching the video. I was already using heavy vinyl from the grocery store. I would wash it off each time and it works great.

I think the problem with the mat for me is that it is so big. Yes grreat for rolling out large cake fondants, but not if it doesn't work. I think I am either going to list mine to sell it for what ever i can sell it for, or cut it up into pieces that are easier to handle. Just to big and heavy to handle easy.

Maybe the fondant lifter rings would work easier than "the MAT"

I don't know and I feel bad for those who are having no luck with the company who makes it... I just wish I would have looked at it further before buying.
