Okay I need some advice. Probably from someone who is familiar with both satin ice (also the small duff brand tubs in a three pack) and fondarific (also the larger 2lb duff brand buckets). I have a Louis Vuitton diaper bag cake to make. I want to choose one of these methods to make the time symbols. I will either paint them on with food coloring mixed with vodka or I will cut the symbols out of edible paper that is already pink. The sugar sheets by Wilson is what I will use.

I think painting them on will look better but I prefer to use fondarific. I cannot ever paint successfully on fondarific. The high oil content or whatever it is makes it bead up and look funny and it just does not work. I know I could paint successfully on satin ice, but I don't like the texture of it. I get elephant skin and it looks horrible. I am wondering if I should try to use satin ice again and then paint the symbols on it, or use the fondarific and cut out the symbols from the sugar sheets. Which do you think would look better? What would you do? Any other suggestions?

Also, is anyone else experienced in trying to paint fondarific?

Thanks!!

Have you tried painting with colored cocoabutter?
Chef Rubber has an awesome "Princess Pink".

Only down side is that cocoa butter doesn't like direct sun or temps over 88 degrees....

Painting with colored cocoa butter sounds like a good option for the future. Unfortunately, this is a very last minute order and I do not live anywhere near a cake/candy supply store or have time to order online.
