I am looking for a gem mold for sugar so i can make all the same shape and size gem maybe around a 6mm size. I have a cake in march that needs gems for quilting points. i have looked all over for one, but they all have the are the molds with the mixed gems and the pre made ones are pretty pricey. or does anyone know of a pretty good place i can purchase lg quantity of them. thank you in advance.
First off, I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know how big 6mm is . I assume it's fairly small, though. I found single-size gem molds hanging in the cake decorating section at Hobby Lobby.
CK has a mold set that has a wide variety of sizes. There are some tiny ones in there that would work, and some slightly larger. You should look into those. It's what most people how make gems use.
I wish i lived near a hobby lobby still. thank you i will check their site. 6mm is small just a little bigger than a 1/2 centimeter. CK is a company that make or distributes cake decorating supplies.https://www.ckproducts.com/home.asp that is a link to their wholesale site. but i do think we can purchase from that site unless you are selling their products. thank you both i will check out both leads. and check back just in case i don't or do find them.

Jolean at Party Cakes and Things in Norfolk should be able to help you.
Ok well here is the results of my searching for days. i have found molds by ck in the local area so that is good. I also found some online. I did not find one with all the same sized gems in one mold though. so i have decided to purchase 5 of the same molds so i can pour 100 gems at the same time. also ck told me that i could have a custom mold made starting at 350.00. so for just over 11.00 i will stick with what i am going to purchase.
I have been playing with the isomalt sugar that i have on hand and i used distilled water and the sugar and all the tools i used with it were made of silicone including the multi shaped gem mold i already have. i did not get any what articles i have read call white scum on it. i think that is because i used the distilled water (no chemicals to get in it) if i am not going to have to skim off stuff from the top of molten hot sugar distilled water at 83 cents a gallon is worth it. they still are not perfect but its a learning process. i think they will be better the next time. i poured the balance of what i did not use into little silicone bowls i purchased and i happened to have some silicone ice cube trays shaped like snowflakes so i used those too. now i can melt them down in the microwave. just like those expensive sticks that are out there.
I just have to get the facets to stay when i get rid of the bubbles any suggestions.
