I've never baked from a fully scratch recipe before, I have decided since I have some free time that I would really like to try it. What is a good recipe for a first timer? Kinda wanting something different than white, yellow or chocolate. Not to worried if it doesn't turn out perfect as this one is just for fun. I also just purchased THE MATT for covering my cake with fondant. I've only done a few fondant cakes and thought it'd be great to practice on a scratch cake. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!!

Happy Baking Everybody!!

Carrot cake and red velvet cake are good beginner scratch cakes. They are both made with oil (usually) and virtually fool-proof.
