Hi guys
I'm unsure how to make an elmo head coming out of the cake.
My biggest worry is the amount of stories I read here with cakes collapsing, and because I need to transport this and I've never done it before, I want the head lower to the cake it will sit on, but I suppose it will need some arms or something too!
I have a ball pan but I don't think this is the right shape - how do I do it?

If I were making this cake - and, let me be clear about this: I never have - I would use the ball pan and put the two halves together but cut off a little at the bottom so that I have a place to put a small foamcore (or whatever) base under it that would sit on the main cake. That way you could put your dowels or straws under that base so that the main cake isn't taking the weight of the head. You could make arms out of RKTs or you could just have his hands coming out of the cake like he's peeking up from a hole. I don't usually use a central dowel going through all the layers, but it sounds like this would be a good time to use one, especially if you're worried about transporting it. This sounds like a totally cute idea, by the way. I wish you luck with it. Let us see a picture when it's done.

I'm planning on making cookie monster coming out of a cookie bin. I'm going to use a half round cake for his head flat on the base and ice that. HTH

I made a cake like this, but with a much more simple method. I made a standard round layer cake and made the Elmo as a poured chocolate figure. I attached lolypop sticks to the back of Elmo with more melted chocolate. It was extremely stable and very realistic.

Marianna, how would you attach the arms? I made the similar cake but could not figure out how to make/attach arms. TYIA icon_confused.gif
