Where can I buy an East Indian / Mehndi cake stencil online in the U.S? One with paisley stencil patterns among many others. Global sugar art has a 5 tier mehndi stencil for $75US which is out of my client's budget. Looking for something more affordable for a 4 tier cake.

Thanks much,
Pearl645

Maybe you could make your own? You can get patterns from websites like hennacaravan.com.

Yeah I would definitely make your own. Buy some card stock and laminate it if you need to.

Does it have to be a stencil? Can you just pipe it free hand?

I did one from looking at some books. It could have been neater, but it still came out ok.

Hi thanks for all the responses. I can get card stock and laminate patterns but how do I get the holes / free spaces to paste the royal icing onto to imprint the pattern on the fondant? I'm not the best at free-hand so I need to rely on a stencil.

You could print a picture of a design you find on the web; then enlarge or diminish it on a photocopier as necessary. The hold it up to the cake and put numerous pin pricks where the design is. Then remove the paper and trace over the design with royal icing.

Or instead of pin pricks, maybe sprinkle powdered sugar over it. Might be easier to see.

If you put a solid piece of paper up against a cake and did not pin-prick the design through the paper onto the cake, how would the powdered sugar get through the design on the paper to the cake?

Find a pattern on the web and print it out on card stock. Then get a gel board and Exacto knife and cut the design on that. That's what I would do.
