Can royal iced cookies be frozen already frosted????? Im using a modified royal icing consisting of merg powder, powder sugar, milk, and butter. Thank you Thank you Thank you
you should avoid freezing hardened (dried) royal icing, as your freezer is a humid environment, and you run the risk of having condensation on the icing, breaking it down and/or causing unslightly water spots. you should store your iced cookies at room temperature, and in an air-tight container (plastic bags or tupperware) to keep out humidity.
however, this may not apply to your "modified" recipe, which has butter in it. your frosting may not "harden" like royal icing, and because of the water-repelling nature of butter, it may not be vulnerable to humidity in the same way.
Although I prefer to leave them fresh, I freeze decorated cookies all the time. I haven't had any problems. When you thaw them, you need to be sure they are in a single layer and have a bit of time to evaporate any condensation.
Frozen and thawed carefully, Royal, royal with butter and fondant all come out just like new.

Just wondering how much butter you are adding in & how that changes the consistancy of the icing? Does it still crust but just not get as hard as regular royal? It must be softer & tastier?? Thanks....
