Hi - I have a client who is wants a topsy turvy cake like Ron Ben-Israel's cake - I'll attach a pic. She wants the bottom tier to be tilted so that flowers are showing right from the bottom.

I can either make a stand to hold the cakes like this (similar to the Caddy Wampus which I own but isn't right for this) or I can use styrofoam inserts between the tiers. I have never tried the styrofoam insert thing but it's a lot cheaper than making a custom stand!

Has anyone made this kind of cake and can you give me some pointers, please? Thanks!

p.s. I made an attachment and also posted the link. Thx

The only way I know to accomplish that look is with a caddywampus cake stand. You can find them at Caljavaonline.com in the "cake study" section.

Not sure if this would help... But it does look similar to the Ron Ben- Israel's cake

I would say they are done with the styrofoam wedge. I did one in my photos, my advice is:

1) Still use a central support system, preferally drilled into the cake board underneath... like a pvc pipe.
2) Make sure the bottom tier is sufficiently dowelled... I used what I always used and the bottom tier couldn't support the weight. But I used straws.. never again lol
3) Glue it all together with melted chocolate.

Here's the tutorial I used http://sugaredblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/graduation-wedge-cake.html

Thanks everyone for the great advice and the links! The links were all excellent. As usual, I didn't get a notice that there were any replies and I forgot to check on this. The wedding isn't until August so I'll be sure to post a pic of the cake then.
