Hello all,
I have a problem figuring out how to make some very small writing on a cake. I'm making a Jack Daniels cake for hubbys bday. On the cake their will be two 2-inch high Jack Daniels whiskey barrels. The problem is that I would like to write out Jack Daniels on the sides of the barrels. I'm not talented enough to pipe that small of writing out yet Anyone have any good ideas? I've seen that some people use paint brushes, but I'm not sure if they paint the icing on or what? Any advice would definitly be appriciated.
Thank you so much
Sometimes when I need to get a message/writing in a small or specific area I will print out the message in whatever font and size I need, then pipe over the words on the paper. (Careful not to pipe too thick)Then I lay a piece of wax paper over it and lightly press/trace over it with my finger. Carefully pull the wax paper off and then press it onto my cake where I need the words, lightly tracing over the letters with my fingers and pull the wax paper off. Most of the time the icing will transfer easily and even if not you will be able to tell exactly where to pipe the letters. Dont know if thats something you might want to try but it works for me. Hope it makes sense!
Depending on the color and the medium your writing on then the markers are useful. However Jack Daniels logo is white. Go to your local Michael's or Hobby Lobby and find the smallest brush in the painting section. Amerigel colors makes white and can be used as a perfect paint for detailing or Wilton's frosting whitener. Just put a small amount on a dish and use it directly on your surface. You could make a mini piping bag and pipe with royal icing, but it demands a very steady hand.
Most local food stores that have a bakery will print edible images for a few dollars. I think they just want 24 hr notice.
Along the lines of what Mandy said, I'm thinking of printing my logo with small writing and reversing it, then tracing on wax paper, attaching to cake then peeling off wax. I don't know how effective this will be.
OR, since my cake is just for a friend, I'm thinking of cutting a strip of wax or rice paper to just lay on the cake, with the traced image still intact. They would just need to peel it off before they eat it.
