I just got a request for a retirement cake from one of my best customers. So far I've been able to come up with great ideas for her, but now I'm stumped. Her mom will be retiring as a waitress from this restaurant:

I've never been there, but from what I hear, it's pretty old school and casual. Help! Any idea what I could do for this cake?

Thank you!

I wonder if you could find out whether the retiree has any hobbies or anything in particular she's looking forward to doing after she retires. You could do a cake based on her future plans rather than on what she's moving away from (I say this, of course, because I can't think of any ideas that have to do with working in a restaurant, either!).

I just did a retirement cake featuring a sunset, framed by a couple of palm trees with a hammock strung between, with a few empty beer bottles in the sand. It was for a doctor but he said he didn't want any reference to his position...

Thank you both for your ideas! I had that thought, too, after I looked at some retirement cakes on CC. I sent the customer an email to see if she can give me any more info. I did end up coming up with a couple of restaurant-related ideas, but they weren't fantastic, so we'll see what she says. Thanks again!

If she wants it relating to the restaurant, I would to the horse and stuff from the top of the web page on the side and a waitresses check book with the all but the last check torn off, and a message written on it. But I can't think of anything clever right now icon_sad.gif (I am dwelling on something else that is taking my brain power!)
