I've been asked to make a birthday cake for a man who's turning 60. His wife only told me he loves to turkey hunt. She didn't care what I did on the cake other than that it pertains to turkey hunting. I know absolutely nothing about turkey hunting! When I search Hunting themes, I come up with deer and duck hunting. Does anyone have any ideas to get my creative juices flowing? Thank you for any help you can give!

You could do a cake with a profile of a hunter on it carrying a sack over his shoulder with turkey feathers and legs poking out of the top OR a round layer cake with the back side of a turkey (feathers and legs) coming out of the side of the cake and the head sticking out the other side or the top OR do a cake with the hunter standing on top and the feathers and legs popping out of the top of the cake (kinda like those babybutt cakes). Anyway, hope the ideas help!

I made a turkey hunt theme cake, using shotgun shell molds from Earlene Moore's site. I was happy with the way it turned out.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

milkmaid42, I love your cake!! I'm not sure I have the skill to pull of painting those feathers. Never have worked with wafer paper. I checked out Earlene Moore's site and I see that the shotgun shells are not actually a mold, but several molds and steps, again - don't know if I have the skill level to pull it off. Thanks for the link to a great site, though!

I while back I saw a cake that had a small figure of a turkey cutting off a man's head. And, it had "you want a piece of me?" written on the top of the cake. I thought it was really funny how the decorator turned things around.
