I know this is a controversial topic, so for those that don't agree with using them...please post somewhere else. Just trying to find resource for white foam boards either 20x30 or larger. Used to wait for Hobby Lobby to have them 50% off and buy 20 for $20. They no longer have 50% off so I'm looking for another source. Any help is appreciated!!!

I buy mine at The Dollar Tree. They are not as thick as the ones from AC Moore but.....they are only $1.00. I often double or triple them for extra support. Hope this helps

Why not try another type of board.Hubby found a company that sells the sheets of hex honeycomb cardboard..They are honeycombed inside and are super durable.We buy a skid and he cuts them down to size for me on his table saw..Most of the boards sizes I use are 18x13 to fit my flat boxes and then larger ones like 18x22...and then we leave full sheets for me to cut for bigger custom cakes...The skid cost me $400.00 but has lasted me 2 years and a bit now....best boards I have ever used...This may be another option as I know the foamboards and other boards can be expensive and like someone mentioned..you have to double them up.

I did a quick Google search and came up with the sources above. The prices weren't great, but not bad, really--averaging a little less than $2/sheet of 3/16th inch 20x30 boards. I didn't go into shipping costs.

I find that Michael's has pretty good sales several times/year, around $1/board, and that's a good way to stock up.

I'll be honest. The Dollar Store boards are the worst quality I've seen. I won't use them at all. They flex & bend so easily and the surface paper is "odd"--dull & thin.

All of my boards have Elmer's stickers on them and they are very sturdy and the paper surface is damn near waterproof. I use 3/16 inch for every 4 inches of cake--never, ever doubling up--and 1/2" for base boards for very heavy cakes, again, never doubled up unless for presentation effect.

I sanitize the boards with vanilla extract & I melt beeswax or edible soy wax and rub a very thin coating on the board before putting on the cake.

Do you use foam boards instead of cake boards? What a clever idea; I never thought of that. Why would you use them instead of the cardboard cake boards; are they sturdier? Sorry for sounding so daft.

the foam boards are nice bc they don't absorb moisture like the cardboard.
