I'm making a honey cake and would like recommendations as to what flavor icings would compliment the honey flavor. I was thinking of a lemon buttercream.

What do you think?

I think lemon would be great with it. I make a lot of Greek desserts and the honey in them is almost always offset with some lemon.

Im new to this site but I saw your post and if youre still looking for ideas for your honey cake (or your next honey cake lol), this tip might help...try to think of already made products in the food world to get inspiration for instance, honey nut cheerios, baklava (spelling), and honey roasted cashews make me think of pairing it with a nutty flavor like maybe a honey nut flavored mousse (which you can achieve with flavoring oils if you dont want to use actual nuts) or when I think of how much I love honey in my teas I think of orange pekoe honey mousse (in the south we would call that a sweet tea & honey mousse) or even green tea and honey mousse (they do make green tea ice cream), when I think of salad dressings I love, I think of honey lime dressing, honey + anything citrus is always a nice combination (as with your lemon idea), Honey and ginger also pair nicely...honey is almost like a little black dress, it's very versatile and goes with so many things! I would love to know what you decided on and how it turned out! HTH
